Mackay Convention Centre

Mackay Convention Centre

Csarchitects designed the winning proposal for a Convention Centre and Hotel on a river front site in Mackay.

The design features a new large public space along the Pioneer River having clear physical and visual relationship with the river. The Convention Centre is set back to the south of River Street, allowing the active foyer spaces of the Convention Centre and restaurants to address both River and Brisbane Streets. The restaurant and smaller exhibition areas further engage the patrons with the river with its dramatic overhanging terrace. The strong geometry of the roof forms establishes visual continuity between the two structures and also serves as a pedestrian link. The complex caters for a new convention facility seating 2000 delegates, a 120-room hotel with serviced apartments above, all with views of the River and parklands beyond.
